The Giver Blog Post # 4

The quote on Mr. Thomas's blog makes we wonder. It makes me think that the nice memories Jonas gives to Gabriel is making him feel love. So his life he could live with real love. He does not have to live with the only words they use for Gabriel could feel emotions the good emotions. Freedom can relate to this because Gabriel would have the rights to use the strong emotional words ( that Jonas thinks) such as love. So he could grow up with a better caring family. This can relate to freedom because they would have a choice to live in the same world or the different world.

The sentence is a choice and Jonas is giving him the better choice to live and express yourself and live happily not the same. Jonas is not choosing the better choice but choosing the choice that should be like that.

For this blog post I chose the following question: " Why does Jonas find the instruction about lying so disturbing?"

I think he finds it disturbing because, one of Jonas main rule of his childhood was not to lie because he knows this job is important, but if it's important why does he lie about it? This rule is a very important rule because if he were to tell the truth he would be in trouble for telling the truth. Another thing that probably bothers him is that he has to live his own life otherwise his life is just a made up lie.

Another thing that would bother Jonas would be that nobody else would know what colors are, the Giver and himself would be the only people with a clue to know what " colors" are. During his life of lies people will start realizing that he is lying and then maybe the truth would be blown, then he would live in a life of shame. Another thing that might bother him is that maybe when he will lie for the first time, he might not be the best lier. He is thinking ahead of what will happen when he lies how might people react to his response? He is uncertain of what might happen.

Living a life of lies is no ordinary life, he would have to hide where he works and what he does, he would lie of most of his life. He has to keep his mouth closed and not talk about how he felt at the dinner table. He would have to make it up and then confess with something that he made up. Something else that might make him annoy is that with those new memories he would feel strange something might hurt him, he might be scared and when he remembers he might not seem as if he were happy when he really is scared, he might feel shame because of lying although it is part of his job.

The question I chose was: Would you want your future to be decided by others? Why or Why not?

For me I would say yes and no. I would say this because if I make a mistake while I do my volunteer hours I will not become what I wanted to be. But the part that I say yes is because when someone tells you you have done very well and you have been selected the most or one of the top assignments, of most honor. You would be pleased with yourself and see what you have accomplished. But that changes everything if they say you are the mailman, which is probably not a very honored assignment. That would mean you would live in shame until you die. That would be very shameful.

For Yes anybody would be glad they had the best assignment, with most honor. You would see how well you worked in your volunteer hours. This would be even better if one of the elders knew you well, and had a good impression on you.

For No most people would be happy that they get to decide because it will not change if you make a mistake because you will learn from it. But for yes if you did make a mistake your dream job is over. But on the good side for no is that you can see which jobs are available and you can self reflect on what you are good at. Your dream job will come and you will get better.

My City reflection

I think I have done some things well. What I believe I did good on my project is that I had a good amount of slides because I had 8 slides and the minimum was 6-1o. Also I think I had a good strong voice.

Although I did well on some things there is still some room for improvement for me. I think that I should practice my script more and not read what is on my power point, I should try not to make that mistake in the future. Also I think I should improve my eye contact with the people around me because as an example I was just staring at the center and front of the room and not really looking at anyone.

I learned that some places fortunate to have fresh grass to grow crops, The only thing that La Paz could grow well is potatoes and they have very fine potatoes there. Also La Paz was lucky to have water that came from some glaciers and went to a lake they were fortunate for that geographical location not the most wealthiest place to grow crops.

Overall I think I did quite well in my presentation some room for improvement but otherwise I think I did really good

My Learning Profile

In class we learned about our dominant sides of our eyes, hands, ears, feet. Mine were all right. We learned this to find out how we are comfortable. There are many different profiles which tell you how you learn best, my profile is profile "L". I am Gestalt dominent learner. which means I use my right brain. In class we found our dominant sides by doing some activities. As you can see I am all right sided.

I learn best when I am separated from other students for me not to disturb. When I am in a quiet environment it will help me concentration. Another activity that helps is drawing or writing with my non-dominant hand, which is my left hand. Something else that helps me learn better with profile "L" is lazy 8s. Lazy eights will help me on my focus. What are lazy 8s? Lazy 8s is when you move your hand in an eight shape or an "infinity" shape. Also according to my profile some things that will help me improve are, conscious walking, dancing, soccer, and martial arts like Tai Chi. 
I need to sit at the right side of the room on the sides to make my right ear hear better. I need a quiet environment in order for me to have the best learning as possible. Mathematics will be beneficial for me. I need to to take more logical information and memorizing them to make me have a balance of logic and gestalt. 


  The strategies that will help my learning is to sit on the left side of the room for  my right ear to hear better. Also in a quiet place will enhance my learning too. Also I may be less distracting to other people in my surroundings if I am further away from them. These stratagies will help me learn.  


Something that I would want my teachers to know about me is that if I do not look like in a good position when I am sitting and I am not up right, I am just tired. If I doodle I am still listening just not looking at you all the time. My focus is always on the teacher when he is speaking, it might not seem like it but I listen which is really the only thing I need when my teacher is explaining something. When something is meant to be seen I look up otherwise I listen.

My New Years Resolution

2011 is a New Year! with that comes some New Year Resolutions. One of my New Years Resolutions would be to finish due assignments early.  this would be good because it puts less stress to me for the next days. I usually do them quite early, for example if something is due in 5 days I should at least finish it in 4 days for there is no more worrying on the last day. and I should at least let my mind rest for one day after thinking hard on my assignment. This will help me refresh on my next task. Also for some days in school, If I have homework on a enen day I should do it on the same day for if I have any trouble with a question I could ask my teacher the next day and then I will know what to do, or at least I should look at my paper, If theres something I do not know and I am in class and I have spotted something I am not so sure or I do not know I can ask the same day and then I will know what to do on the same day, Putting less stress the next day. This will help me improve mostly in school for my Homework.

I also had another Resolution to share. My second Resolution would be to spend more time with family. Usually I am on the computer, rather doing my homework which is good or I am rather playing video games. So I do not spend much time with my family. This will help me to be happy with my family and maybe we can bond more. This will also keep my mind fresh after playing video games. It would also be better if I at least play video games with my family. I want to do this at my home and anywhere else where I visit my relatives. Instead of playing my IPod when I am at my relatives house I can at least not play and resist some time with them or at least see what they are doing. This is more important when I am with my adult Uncles etc. because they do not usually talk to me because I am a kid they spend more time with "Their Own Kind"  
( Adults) . This would be a great way to spend time with family.

During the Holidays I had lots of fun. I went to San Fransisco over Christmas break and I spent time with my Uncle, aunt grandmother and grandfather. When I woke up on Christmas morning, my brother had woken me up and then I woke up straight away and I ran to my parents room in the house. My brother already woke them up and then we woke everyone else. Once everyone was woken up we stayed by the Christmas tree and me and my brother started opening our presents. We ripped, we tore, all the presents and we got what we wanted and more (or at least for me) I especially wanted an I Pod touch. I got that and i got many more. One special thing that I enjoyed that I did not ask Santa Claus was an R2-D2. I got an R2-D2 which was voice control with a list of commands. I really enjoyed Christmas!

After Christmas I went to my Uncles house there we stayed in Richmond Virginia. We went to visit Washington D.C. There we saw many fascinating things. We saw the Lincoln memorial it was a huge palace type of place with Mr. Lincoln on a chair and I think everything was made out of marble. They also they had some interesting writings on the sides. That was one amazing site. But also we went to an air space museum, a natural history museum, and the american history museum. All the museum were also very amusing. The air space museum had the REAL back up pod that they would of used on there land on the moon. Also everything inside was real. They had the fastest plane in the world which goes as fast as 7557 kmph, this plane was also real. IN the natural history museum they did not have much fossils but they did have some fake animals, they were predicting how they looked like, most all extinct. My favorite extinct animal is the saber tooth, I like it because it has such cool teeth. The American history museum was also very cool they had the real wright brothers plane and the real cloth from it. The wright brothers were the first people to make a flying vehicle. My trip was very fun and interesting!
